The Red Bull Air Race World Championship was established in 2003 by Red Bull. Competitors are required to fly their aircraft over obstacles as fast as possible so that they can complete the 5 or 6-kilometer long track. Obstacles commonly air gates are approximately 20 meters high and the distance between two gates is from 10 meters to 15 meters. Each gate has its particular manner of crossing. Blue gates must be crossed in horizontal line while red gates require slanting line. To other colored gates, pilots can fly in free line. Penalty is applied for an incorrect passing of an air gate and touching an air gate can be out of the completion.

2010 Red Bull Air Race World Championship was held at the Lausitzring racetrack in Klettwitz in the eastern part of Germany. The event attracted considerable attention from the public and the press. This year, the competition had the participation of pilots from Canada, America, Germany, Britain and others countries. Having got over obstacles in the shortest time, pilot Paul Bonhomme of Britain won the cup in 2010 Red Bull Air Race World Championship. He was reported to earn his pilot’s license at the age of 17 and is now a British Airways 747 pilot. The Red Bull Air Race will return in 2012 after a year-long break to develop the sport into a more marketable format.
