What Causes Hair Loss And Treatments For It

There are hair loss products capitalizing on people’s hope to restore hair loss. Education is important when choosing the right hair loss products. This article is to help you understand the causes of hair loss and what you can do to prevent further hair loss and restore damaged hair follicles to good health. There are many factors that cause hair loss:  genetic disposition, illness, medications, hair treatments, and emotional stress. Although hereditary is an uncontrollable factor that causes hair loss, there are two causes of hair loss that are completely within our control: nutrition and hair care products.

Poor nutrition contributes to hair thinning and slows or even stops regrowth. Many people often overlook nutritional deficiency as cause to hair loss. When the body is deprived of proper nutrients, it can affect the health of the hair and scalp. Without the proper proteins, vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids, our hair will weaken and overtime, will stop growing. The first step to growing back healthy hair and reversing hair loss is by a balanced diet and keeping your body well hydrated. Drink plenty of water so the nutrients from the foods you eat can be properly transported. A word of caution about Vitamin A intake – excess Vitamin A can cause hair loss as well as other health risks. If you are taking Vitamin A supplement, the recommended daily intake should not exceed 5,000 IU daily for adults.

Food sources rich in protein and vitamins include green and yellow vegetables, all fruits, fermented food such as soy sauce and naturally leavened sour dough bread, nuts and seeds, dried legumes, and edible species of algae.

Essential fatty acids: Flax seed, flax seed oil, walnuts, raw tofu

Vitamin A: Green vegetable and yellow vegetable such as spinach, kale, collard, kale, Chinese cabbage, carrots, papaya, apricot, cantaloupe

Vitamin B-6: Any dark green vegetables, chicken, fish, pork

Vitamin B-12: Chlorella, spirulina,  Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA), sourdough bread

Vitamin C: All citrus fruits, potatoes, bell peppers, tomatoes

Vitamin E: Pistachio nuts, oats, quinoa, rice; sunflower seeds, almonds, broccoli, olives,

Eating a well-balanced diet is essential to hair growth. Another important measure to take is to use natural shampoo that contains no synthetic detergents and toxic ingredients. Studies have linked cancer to some of the common ingredients used in our hair care products which is why the more you know about the ingredients in your hair care products, the more informed and educated choices you can make. There are now many organic shampoos that are made from natural and certified organic ingredients. Not only do these shampoos contain no sulfate, parabens, and phthalates, they are also not formulated with any synthetic substances. Hair care products that are parabens-free, sulfate-free, and phthalates-free are the easiest to indentify because the manufacturers would indicate so on their product labels. Organic shampoo of course is the best shampoo as part of your hair loss treatment. When buying organic shampoo, read the ingredients label to verify if the product indeed contains only natural stuff. Just because it has the word “organic” or “natural” does not necessarily mean that the product contains no synthetic ingredients.

There is no magic potion to restoring hair loss. Years of nutritional deficiency and bad shampoo choices will take time for the body to heal itself to good health. When you change the way you eat and and use only natural ingredients shampoo, your hair will benefit tremendously. It's never too late to start reversing hair loss and preventing future hair loss.
