Eating disorders, such as anorexia, can cause it, and so can crash dieting. It can occur when someone has a chronic illness, or when they abuse drugs. Childbirth, anemia, hypothyroidism, and fever can all be causes. Particularly severe emotional trauma or emotional disorder can cause it too.
