How to Recognize Hair Loss

Hair loss, also known as alopecia, is a common problem that affects millions of men, women, and children. At least half of all adults will experience some thinning or loss of hair by the time they are 60 years old, and many men will become completely bald. This is different from the loss you experience every day when you shampoo or style your hair. The average person loses about 100 hairs a day. Abnormal hair breakage means that you are shedding more than that and, in the case of the most common type of hair loss, the hair will not grow back. It is no wonder that finding an effective hair loss treatment is a matter of great importance.

It may occur if male or female hormones, known as androgen and estrogen, are out of balance. Correcting the hormone imbalance may alleviate the problem.

But remember that hairs also do fall out when new ones growing beneath the scalp push them out. So with this type of alopecia hair falling out may be a sign of hair regrowth. As the new hair first comes up through the scalp and pushes out the dead hair a fine fringe of new hair is often seen along the forehead hairline.

What Are Some Causes of hair falling out?

Understanding some of the causes will put us in a good position to decide if any hair loss treatment is needed and if so what type. Many women notice a loss of hair about 3 months after giving birth. This type is also hormone related. During pregnancy, high levels of certain hormones cause the body to keep hair that would normally fall out. That's why for some women there seems to be a surge in hair growth during pregnancy. When the hormones return to pre-pregnancy levels, that hair falls out and the normal cycle of growth and loss starts again.

Some medicines can contribute to hair breakage. In this case the problem improves when you stop taking the medicine. Such medicines include blood thinners (also called anticoagulants), medicines used for gout, medicines used in chemotherapy to treat cancer, vitamin A (if too much is taken), birth control pills and antidepressants.

Alopecia is related to levels of free (unbound, circulating) testosterone, which gets converted into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Some men, because of their genetics, have hair follicles that respond to DHT by shrinking.

For girls and women especially, barrettes and ponytail holders can cause significant damage even to healthy hair.

Hair Loss Treatment

One solution to the problem of losing hair that has been around for many years is the use of a wig or a hair piece. Hair pieces have evolved greatly over the years, and look more natural than ever. Nowadays, hair pieces are made from 100% authentic human hair, or from synthetic hair that has a very natural look and feel.

A natural herbal hair loss treatment that has grown in popularity is Provillus. One great advantage of this treatment is that it works well for both men and women. Another reason why it has become the treatment of choice is that it uses ingredients approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. (FDA). It also has no known side effects. How does it work?

Provillus works by blocking the DHT (dihydrotestosterone) which causes shrinking and thinning of the hair. Also it is beneficial for women because it seeds the scalp, creating a suitable environment for growth of healthy hair. To summarize the advantages of Provillus: no side effects, blocks DHT, promotes natural hair re-growth, requires no creams and no harmful chemicals, works well for both men and women.
